Abstract

This essay discusses the exhibition Amarillo, Azul y Roto. Años 90: arte y crisis en Ecuador’s curatorial proposal. After a short historical account to understand contextual issues regarding politics and economics during the 90s in Ecuador, we present thematic relationships between various artistic practices as political artistic positions facing this crisis. Finally, we evaluate the value of historicizing Ecuadorian art, and the absence of public collections of contemporary art, in the country.
