Queer Evitas, out in the streets of Buenos Aires
Main Article Content
Abstract
Eva Perón (1952-1919) a world-wide known Argentinean politician, has become a queer icon. From that symbolic re-significance, many artists have produced works about her, commonly consigned to the underground culture. However, in 2019 during Evita’s birthday centenary, different collective performances took place in the streets of Buenos Aires; where Peronists, feminists and sexual minorities activists paid tribute and expressed their support to Peronist candidates who ran for the national elections last October. Therefore, the aim of this article is to explore social and artistic process in which Evita’s queer performances left their traditional cultural edges to appear in Buenos Aires downtown in full daylight.
