The dawn of nature. Ecosystems and landscapes in current Ecuadorian art

Abstract

During the exhibition there are different ways of approaching the crisis in artistic practices. Some works analyze conventional ways of representing nature, as shown in schoolbooks, scientific or tourist images, political propaganda and art. Or they resort to anthropological, ecological, or environmental debates to understand our place in the world and the link with other species, from new perspectives. Others try to move from a poetic representation of natural spaces to an aesthetic-political thinking about territories that host biodiverse ecosystems. The works of the exhibition compel us towards an area where the traditional division between nature and culture seems to fade.
