Abstract

Happily, artistic research has been accepted by academia in recent years and a beneficial relationship between art and science seems promising. Despite this, tensions and reluctance exist that obstruct the development of interdisciplinary projects where Art is involved. This paper will analyze and compare artistic research and scientific research in the light of four classic domains of Science Philosophy: language, mereology, method and truth; secondly, the article will articulate two hypotheses about the reasons for the disagreement between art and science, based on the division of rationalism and empiricism and, on the encounter possibility, based on the hypothetical use of reason, between the artistic and scientific research; two methodologically different views on the same concepts or metaphysical problems.
