The Art of the Aesthetic Object

Abstract
This essay deals with the interplay between representation and objecthood, which has been of explicit interest in modern painting, sculpture, and architecture in the context of the modern metropolis. Much of the richness of the modern pictorial experience lies in our perception of the tensions between the actuality of the work as an object and its representational readings between painting and image or between object and artistic activity. Following the instructions indicated by Picasso's guitar, which translated the cubist syntax into real space, several works have situated themselves on the boundaries of pictorialism and objecthood, placing the concerns of art at a crossroads between painting, sculpture, and architecture within the setting of the modern metropolis.
